Where to buy electronic parts and components in Bangalore pt.2

Edit: Outsiders refer to SP Road as “Electronic City”, which is misleading as the IT industrial park in Bangalore is called “Electronics City“. As I’m becoming a Bangalore insider more and more I’ve struck out the term to avoid further confusion

We’re back to Electronic City in S.P. Road, I went there to get some things from the huge list I made. Again, I went to OM electronics but  this time I was dealing with a different salesman who somehow refused to browse my list, not even for parts they got in stock. Kind of frustrated (never talk to the big old guy there, instead leave the store and come back later!) now I found myself on my own in this overcrowded electronic canyon. It turned out to be less complicated than I thought…

An almost comprehensive line ranging from basic standard components  to a complete inventory of an electronic science lab is offered here: Passive & active components, semiconductors, electromechanicals, optoelectronics, power supplies, transformers, interconnects, kits & sets,  measuring & construction tools and little helpers. I feel like I’ve found my major supplier.

Just accros the street is one of the shops selling just cables and wires off the meter. The owner seems to know the entire conversion matrix of average wire gauge to diameter by heart. The world of copper for internal wiring, installation and HiFi, flat ribbons etc. – in different types and qualities.

The slogan is pretty exaggerated over the top, hovewer almost everyone here in electronic city sends you there when it comes to certain things, mostly AC/DC adapters aka wallwarts. I bought a 9V 1A adaptor for about 160 rupees which at other places was charged for 265-300.

Some advice:

If you go there to get parts for a project make a complete list of what you need, add as many details as you can (value, dimension, footprint) and make it well structured or you’ll probably get confused around here and forget something. Ask the salesman for a business card of the shop if you want to come back, especially if you go in one of S.P.’s side lanes, It’s sometimes hard to remember where you’ve been.
